What is a Quest?
Turn a walk into a treasure hunt while exploring the outdoors!
On the South Shore of Boston there are many outdoor treasure hunts for families and small groups to enjoy.
Each quest brings you to an outdoor trail where you can enjoy nature while looking for clues.
Quests start at a marked beginning point and include several clues hidden along the way. The last clue of each quest is a box containing a small guest book, a stamp pad, a rubber stamp, and answers to questions asked by curious "Questers". Once the box is found, participants stamp the back page of their Quest book (as proof of accomplishment), and may write or stamp in the guest book.
Each spring volunteers place the clues and boxes along the trails where they remain until late fall. Please let us know if a clue is missing by sending an email to admin@southshorequests.org. Click here to see the locations of the quests.

Trail updates for 2012
Before doing a quest, check below to see if there are any trail updates since the Quest book was published.
General Trail Updates
Conservation Park Quest
Page 18. In the fourth paragraph of the quest, the first two sentences should read, “Beyond the sign, you will see a bench on the left and engraved on the front are some words. Put the second letter of the first word (ignoring the initials!) in Clue Box #s 3 and 7.”
WEBB PARK QUEST EXTENSION - 2012
Text in 2012 book unchanged: The following text, to be included as a Trail Update on the Q website, is to be read as if it appears between the last two paragraphs of the text as printed in the book:
No box? Maintenance work at this site has made it necessary to hide the box elsewhere. Don’t worry; you’ll get a chance to stamp your book!
Go behind the tree described by the clues. Turn your back so that the parking lot is behind you and a brushy briar patch is in front of you. Straight ahead you can see an old unused trail which goes a short way into the thicket. Walk to the end - it’s only ten steps long. At the end of the trail is a fallen log with a serpentlike woody vine coiled around it. The box is very close.
Sign in, stamp your book, and put the sticks back in place!
